Who We Are

In the middle of the Covid pandemic,
a cohort of parents, pastors, and mentors in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia began to experiment with structured, intergenerational conversations about faith & culture.

Since that beginning, we have facilitated over 1,000 conversations between youth and the adults who love them on topics like media, sexuality, science, and mission.

“The best way to get most youth involved in and serious about their faith communities is to get their parents more involved in and serious about their faith communities.”

— Christian Smith, National Youth & Religion Study

CruCon Project Team

  • Ken Wettig

    CruCon Project Director

Ken Wettig had his life radically reoriented as an adolescent through discovering his identity as a child of God within his “Father’s house”. Graduating with a Masters in Christian Leadership in 2019, the majority of Ken’s adult life has been spent raising his four children, directing multiple non-profit programs, or pastoring the local church. In 2020, amidst the pandemic, Ken and his family co-founded SLAQ and CruCon with five other families.

As a visionary and creative, Ken is constantly seeking out the intersection of heaven and earth through song writing, preaching, writing and adventuring with the next generation.

  • Debbi DiGennaro

    Project Manager

Debbi DiGennaro worked with CruCon during the critical development period of the summer of 2025. Her job was to make the magic happen, mostly a matter of checklists, spreadsheets, and keeping our content developers caffeinated. One of her enduring interests is the formation of family & congregational systems - the structures, norms, and practices that nurture sane and sparkling community. When not at CruCon, you can find her teaching Social Work to college students or pranking her young adult children.

  • Dara Rhodes-Showalter

    Resource Developer

Dara is a rising senior at Bridgewater College, majoring in Biology. A former participant in SLAQ during high school, she has spent the past three years serving as a leader, co-leading service projects with local organizations and coordinating outdoor adventure days. After completing her undergraduate studies, Dara plans to pursue a doctorate in Physical Therapy with the goal of practicing overseas. She is excited for this new role as Resource Developer as a way to further hone the skills she's developed over the years and contribute to SLAQ & CruCon’s growth in new ways.

  • Martin Rhodes

    Project Overseer

Martin Rhodes has been involved with CruCon from the first day, first as a father of three adolescents and then as a member of our oversight team. Martin has a Master’s Degree in Theology & Ethics from Duke University’s School of Divinity, and is an ordained minister in the Anglican church. He also loves splitting wood for the fireplace and reading good books. We appreciate how Martin keeps CruCon theologically grounded.

  • Jesse Mercer

    End User Advocate

Jesse believes that education starts with understanding the student. Professionally, Jesse is an educational software designer and with CruCon, he makes sure our content is accessible to the youth and disciplers for whom it was designed. Jesse also encountered CruCon first as a parent and then joined our oversight team. He believes in this program and the importance of investing in the next generation. If our materials are attractive and easy to read, it’s because his sharp and careful eyes were on them first.

  • Jeff Lindeman

    Strategy & Advocacy

Jeff is the wise gray head at CruCon. A retired attorney, Jeff is an author and spiritual leader from Falls Church, VA. He mentors the middle-aged adults who are running CruCon. We are anchored by his wisdom and strategic leadership skills.
