Frequently Asked Questions

The people…

Who is CruCon Designed for?

CruCon is a discipling resource, designed to facilitate intergenerational conversations at the intersection of faith & culture. High school-aged youth and their parents/pastors/ mentors are the primary intended audience.

If you work with middle school-aged youth, we recommend the foundational Wisdom & Media series. That content is appropriate for all ages.

Can I do CruCon by myself?

No. CruCon is specifically designed to move us away from mere content consumption towards community connection through intentional conversations. Because conversations take more than one person, so does CruCon.

Can I do CruCon with just my kids?

Our program design works best when at minimum of 2 more household conversations can meet together monthly. Because we value linking youth to their broader faith family (not only their parents), we hope they will engage with several different disciplers.

Who is a “discipler”?

A discipler can be any adult who’s committed to show up for the youth in their lives. Our specific goal is to empower parents, pastors, and mentors to disciple youth through authentic and face-to-face engagement. CruCon uses conversation groups to support and structure that process.

Who is a “conversation partner?”

In this program, a conversation partner is a trusted community leader (pastor, teacher, etc.) who has been trained to lead others through the CruCon program.

The practice…

What is a “household conversation group”?

Conversations are the basic building blocks of CruCon. Small groups, at least one adult and one youth, often meet in homes, a coffee shop, or local park. We find it works well to have at least 1 youth per adult (i.e. if two parents want to do CruCon we recommend they have at least 2 youth participants). Groups of 4 or 5 encourage everyone to be active participants in the discussions.

What is the difference between a “household conversation” and a “community conversation”?

A household conversation is a group of 2-5 people who meet weekly, 3 weeks per month. On the 4th week, household conversation groups meet together for a larger discussion, lead by the a trained CruCon “conversation partner.” CruCon is scalable— it can work with 2 to 10 household groups.

What is a “conversation piece”?

In our mission to transform content into connection through conversation, the CruCon team curates the very best content from leading Christian creators, thinkers, and practitioners. We arrange this content (books, movies, articles, etc) as “conversation pieces” in a 12 week series. Disciplers and youth engage the content together as the basis of their discussions.

Are all “conversation pieces” provided digitally?

No. We believe in the importance of the tangible. Therefore every conversation series includes a physical book, as the anchoring Conversation Piece and a physical Conversation Guide.

What is a “conversation launch”?

This is our term for the initial gathering where all participating youth and disciplers meet to a) engage the series introductory video, b) submit their series QUESTions, and c) pick up their conversation packets.

The process…

Do I need to be trained to be a conversation partner?

Yes, those who wish to facilitate this program are required to complete our Faith & Gen Alpha training series.

Do I need to be trained to be a CruCon Discipler?

There is no mandatory training to be a CruCon discipler (parent/pastor/mentor), however we encourage you to make use of the instructional videos we provide toll help you feel confident and comfortable in your role.

How much lead time do I need to launch a conversation cohort?

If you want to faciliate a CruCon series, plan for a conversation launch about 3 months after you begin your training with us.
