Time to launch! During the Wisdom & Media Series Launch, participants will meet other participants in the Conversation Cohort and get oriented to the practice of CruCon while engaging in a small group activity and receiving the series materials.

Humans are designed for love, and love requires real-life engagement. But are our devices designed for human engagement or digital distraction? This week we will discuss how we can better design our households for human engagement.

Hopefully by now you see that this isn’t about being anti-tech, it’s about being anti-foolishness, yet certain parts of the internet are full of distraction and foolishness. How can you recognize the spirit of Babylon versus healthy digital spaces? That is why we need Community Conversation #2!

When God delivered Israel from slavery in Egypt, a primary gift/command was one day of rest every week: a sabbath. Today, digital Babylon never sleeps or rests and tempts us away from God-given rest into endless entertainment and consumption. Might resistance to digital addiction require a regular rhythm of digital detox?

Tech tells us we are stressed; here, watch this show. Tech tells us we are less than others; here is a filter to spruce you up a bit. Tech tells us we are lonely; here is a chatbot. But wisdom calls out inviting us to take hold of the abundant life promised in Jesus (John 10:10). Are you ready to join the adventure of practicing abundant life in digital Babylon?

When his parents discovered young Jesus in the temple, they found him “sitting, listening and asking questions “ of the wise elders of his community. As they returned home after Jesus' adventure, he “continued to grow in wisdom & grace” (often translated as “favor”). The Week #11 household conversation is focused on the final project as an opportunity to reflect on both ways you want to grow, in wisdom and in grace, from what you have learned and/or what you remain curious about.

Facing the challenges of coming of age amidst the rise of digital Babylon can be daunting. But Jesus promises us that whoever builds their life on his words is like a wise person whose life will not be destroyed when the storms come. What will it look like for you to build a tech-wise life on the bedrock of Jesus' teachings?
