Faith & AI
A Community Workshop
"Common Sense Media's testing revealed that AI companions easily produce responses ranging from sexual material and offensive stereotypes to dangerous "advice" that, if followed, could have life-threatening or deadly real-world consequences for adolescents." - Talk, Trust & Trade Offs
A recent report from Common Sense Media indicates that 1/3 of today’s adolescents prefer to take their “serious questions” to AI companions rather than to trusted adults in their lives.

Upcoming Workshops
-
Invite CruCon leadership to host a 2hr intergenerational crucial conversation on Faith & AI within your community.
Focused on the potential impact of AI on the social and spiritual lives of the next generation, together we will discern what questions are so sacred that we refuse to take them to an AI chatbot?
We are offering one workshop per month, specific dates are arranged with each community. Multi-church workshops are encouraged.
While we have grant funding to cover some of the expenses for this initial year, we welcome communities to consider ways to support the project.

Below are 5 brief “working principles” that guide our development of this workshop. For a fuller vision of the impetus, theology, and convictions informing our approach we recommend exploring the seven part article series:
Biblical Wisdom for Real-Life Conversation in the Artificial Age
-
We are not experts in AI; we are ministers of formation. Therefore our focus will be on the spiritually and socially formative impact AI could have on the next generation. While we will not be addressing economic, environmental, political, or moral questions about AI use in the presentation or breakout groups, we are happy to wrestle through those issues during the Q&A time as non-experts.
-
Technology is not neutral, nor is it inherently good or evil. Technology has the power to first shape and then amplify human values, whether for good or ill. See Melvin Kranzberg’s Laws of Technology
-
The best antidote to the potentially evil impact of artificial intelligence is real wisdom: inspired by God's word and intended for human flourishing as defined by Jesus’ greatest commandment.
-
The profound crisis that AI represents to human relationships and flourishing is also a profound opportunity for the church to offer a vision of God's wisdom embodied in human lives as we faithfully navigate the rise of digital Babylon.
