Most of our lives are spent working or resting, yet most Christians view work and rest as something set apart from our spiritual lives. What if God’s interest in our lives goes beyond just the “spiritual” things? Let’s challenge our views and explore what the Bible has to say about how work and rest relate to what it means to be fully human.

The opening chapter of Genesis says that humanity is made in the likeness of God. How does that foundational truth about humanity give insight into our purpose and how we should live in the world? Let’s explore that topic in this section as we look at what it means to be rulers of creation.

Who we think we are has an influence on how we live. Therefore, how can an identity rooted in belonging to God  inform our sense of a calling? In this section, you’re invited to consider the intersection between our identity and our vocation.

This month, participants read the opening chapters of Garden City, which explain our purpose as royal priests and images of God whose job it is to tend the garden and make the world a more Eden-like place. They also watched a video discussing how an identity rooted in God is the priority before a person’s vocation can be realized and that all work is important to God. We have only considered the ideas behind vocation before looking at what someone personally should do with their life.

Each of us is called to something specific and reflective of who God made us to be. And in that work, we are able to reveal the glory of God. But how do we discover what that thing is and glorify God with our gifts? In this section, let’s explore the practical questions about vocation.

Humanity was blessed with a vocation full of purpose and fulfillment. However, if God spoke an image of vocation full of delight, why does the reality of work seem so warped? In this section, let’s explore the mindset we should have about work and address the realities of living in a fallen world.

Identity plays an important role in how we interact with our work and vocation. But what can happen if we entrust our identity to our culture rather than to God? You’re invited to explore the truth behind what shapes our identity and the confusion that a misplaced identity can bring.

Together with your Conversation Cohort teach on, reflect together, and integrate the previous months content through a wise-elder presentation, small group conversation activity, and the Battle of the Generations trivia game.

Working for six days and resting for one is a rhythm set in place since the beginning of God’s work in the universe. How can observing the sabbath amplify the fulfillment of our work and allow us to live into the full extent of our vocation? Explore the origin and meaning behind sabbath rest as well as practical points on how to take a sabbath rest.

Many Christians hold the view that the world and all of the “work” that we put into it will be traded out for an eternity of worship and relaxation in Heaven. However, what if the Bible paints a picture in which our work and rest are things that will follow us into the resurrection? In this section, we explore that topic and consider what it means for our lives now.

As we begin to wind down this conversation series on faith & vocation, we want to create space for you to both offer the CruCon team feedback on your experience, while also spending some time developing a Final Project based on this series that you can share at the final Community Conversation #3.

Together with your Conversation Cohort you will engage in a final wise-elder presentation before having a chance to hear a reflection based on the final projects from each group. Finally, Week 12, and the series itself, will then culminate by discovering which generation really is better through the grand finale of the best of three Battle of the Generations trivia game.
